We can't be uncivilized about this, as much as we might detest the betrayal. Lengthy jail is suitable for this crime where the problem was stopped before the information was transferred to the outside.

"whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."
It doesn't sound uncivilized when read in this paragraph. So, make this bastard "suffer death".

That's a colonial time attitude, like when British and French traitors were hanged, drawn, and quartered. Yes, it's uncivilized.
There is also massive spin of semantics in twisting what it is to be a traitor while a community finds comfort in violent killing for retribution, especially when no damage has been done in overall effect.
No, I am never intending to say there are not things worth fighting for as well.
I strongly favor the imprisonment in this case, since no damaging material got out.
Hang the bastard(s) is an attitude that can quickly grow to others, when jerks feel comfort in quickly killing opponents. It's much like torture, and sends the wrong message to Americans about what we stand for at home and abroad. Rash killing is becoming like our nations' oppressive enemy states.

I'll agree we disagree here. There are offenses which I believe the penalty for committing are no where near as severe as they should be, in my opinion. This is one of them.
