Extermination camps were built by Nazi Germany during World War II to systematically kill millions of primarily Jewish victims. Non-Jews were also killed in these camps, including Poles, Soviet POWs and other "undesirables". This genocide of the Jewish people was Heinrich Himmler's "Final solution to the Jewish question". In total aproximately 3.7 million people were starved to death or gassed on an industrial scale.
