ERGM  Description:  Extended Range Guided Munition is a precision guided rocket-assisted 5-inch (12.7 cm) artillery shell develed by Raytheon for the U.S. Navy. The program was cancelled in March 2008 after 12 years of development and over $600m USD in funding. ERGM is fired from the 5 inch 62 Caliber mod 4 Mark 45 gun at which point the fins deploy, rocket motors ignite and lift the munition to at least 80,000 feet (24 km) when the canards would deploy and guide the ERGM to the target based on GPS guidance. XM982 Excalibur  Description:  The XM982 Excalibur is a 155 mm extended range guided artillery shell presently in development by Raytheon and BAE Systems. The "smart" round will have a range of 40-57 km depending on configuration with a CEP of 10 m. The extended range is achieved through the use of folding glide fins, allowing the projectile to glide from the top of a ballistic arc. The accuracy is achieved through the use of GPS.
