Video by Isao Hashimoto showing a graphical history of the world's nuclear explosions. Over the course of 14 minutes, it shows every one of the 2053 nuclear tests and explosions that took place between 1945 and 1998. A metronomic beep every second represents one month. Starting slowly at first with the Manhattan Project and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it rapidly accelerates as the cold war atmospheric testing schedule kicks into top gear.

SS-18 Satan Launch
Description: 
The R-36 is a family of intercontinental ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles designed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The original R-36 designated 8K67 and was given the NATO reporting name SS-9 Scarp. The modern version, the R-36M (NATO name SS-18 Satan) was viewed by certain U.S. analysts as giving the Soviet Union first strike advantage over the U.S., particularly because of its very heavy throw weight and large number of re-entry vehicles, with a maximum of over 10 warheads.

ERGM
Description: 
Extended Range Guided Munition is a precision guided rocket-assisted 5-inch (12.7 cm) artillery shell develed by Raytheon for the U.S. Navy. The program was cancelled in March 2008 after 12 years of development and over $600m USD in funding. ERGM is fired from the 5 inch 62 Caliber mod 4 Mark 45 gun at which point the fins deploy, rocket motors ignite and lift the munition to at least 80,000 feet (24 km) when the canards would deploy and guide the ERGM to the target based on GPS guidance.

XM982 Excalibur
Description: 
The XM982 Excalibur is a 155 mm extended range guided artillery shell presently in development by Raytheon and BAE Systems. The "smart" round will have a range of 40-57 km depending on configuration with a CEP of 10 m. The extended range is achieved through the use of folding glide fins, allowing the projectile to glide from the top of a ballistic arc. The accuracy is achieved through the use of GPS. In contrast, standard U.S. 155 mm shells have a CEP of 200 to 300 meters.

.50 Caliber Impacts
Description: 
225 grain .50 caliber lead slugs impacting produce, safety glasses, cell phones, creamer packs, 50mL laboratory tubes, and an aluminum plate. The slugs were propelled from a prototype airgun. A few clips show a .177 pellet impact for comparison with the .50 caliber projectile energy.
